Tyler L.

Frankenstein as interpreted by Tyler Lotz

Victor Frankenstein was consumed with his pursuit to recreate life from dead matter.
"I seemed to have lost all soul or sensation but for this one pursuit" (Shelley 73). This quote goes to show how mentally unstable and crazed he has become during his endeavors to create life. The concept of a pursuit of life at all costs is even more evident in film version of Mary Shelley's novel. In the film, Victor establishes life from "materials" not once but twice! What makes the recreating of life more disturbing is that he recreates life with the face of his lover his second time around. His pursuit overcame common reason by this point in the story and leads to him losing his love not once, but twice.

His passion, although far-fetched and grotesque, is similar in a way to everyone pursuing a goal no matter what tolls and misfortunes it unleashes on them. One example of people harming themselves in order to enhance there ability to reach there dreams are athletes. Some athletes decide to boost their ability to perform by taking steroids. Although they can help the player gain an edge over the opponent, they also come with severe side effects. Just normal usage of steroids can lead to cancer forming, a weakening of tendons, and stunt the user's growth. Although very different from Victor, both people are trying to achieve something that is not worth the consequences.
