Frankenstein

"Life at all costs" is apparent in the book when Victor Frankenstein swears revenge on the monster he created after the death of his family members. Victor swore that he would never give up his cause until he put his creation to death or until Victor himself was killed. Victor blames himself for the creation of the beast that murdered his wife, brother and best friend and he feels guilty for their deaths and is infuriated that his creation still lived unrestrained to wreak havoc on human kind. Shelley made it clear that Victor would pursue Frankenstein until until the end of time when she writes, "I confess hat it is the devouring and only passion of my soul. My rage is unspeakable when I reflect that the Murder, whom I have turned loose upon society, still exists" (Shelley 177). The thought of revenge is the only thought on Victor's mind, it has become a devouring passion that drives him into a powerful rage.
Now in modern day, there are people who pursue others for the reasons of revenge and what they believe is justice. The law enforcement is always attempting to fight crime and bring those people who have wronged others to justice but there are some who take it further and can become obsessed with bring criminals to lawfulness. It is the job primarily of detectives and crime scene investigators to pursue those who are at fault for a crime often to the point of feeling personally affected or offended and make it their personal duty. Guilt could also play a large role if somebody else gets hurt or is affected by the same perpetrator and the law enforcement officer could have done something to stop them.
